Since she was a little girl, our founder Mary Meier has had an interest in technology. She wanted to master every program, whether it be Word or Google Drive and her favorite class in school was computer class. However, as she grew up, her friends all wanted to work in fashion or makeup. Mary never had anyone tell her they loved computers as much as she did. So, she put her interest to the side in order to better fit in and focused on other subjects like English or math. However, she always found herself being pulled back into technology and her mom clearly saw this. With some research, Mary’s mom found a new computer science class being offered at her high school the next year! Although she was hesitant, Mary decided to give it a try. Four years later, she was the only girl in her grade to finish the computer science program at her high school and she is now studying it in college! Although she struggled with feeling out of place in her classes in the past, she knows that this is the path for her and if she hadn’t taken the risk, she never would’ve found her passion.
Now, Mary wants to show other kids why she loves computer science so much and get rid of the negative stigma she felt growing up. This is why she created UCode, an immersive video game where players can use their imagination to customize their game using coding! They can choose what kind of videogame they’d like: racing, sports, dress-up, makeup, etc. Using simple drag-and-drop methods, players are able to see their game come to life in real-time. They will be making choices every step of the way that taps into their imagination and creativity to make the perfect game for them.
